Help, Don’t Sell

So what do you do in sales when you feel rejected? Quite often, when we don’t make a successful sale or an offer for somebody. It affects us,

“gosh I’m not good enough”

“They don’t like me.”

“They don’t love me.”

“I’ll never make another sale again”

“I shouldn’t get in sales”

“I should get a proper job.”

All these crazy thoughts go through your head.

So let me give you some advice. Think about this:

You’re walking down the sidewalk. You have your backpack on. Right in front of you, someone falls over and skins a knee. You go over and say, Hey, you okay? Yeah, I can help. In my backpack, I’ve got some Polysporin, and  I’ve got some Band-Aids. Let me clean that up.

No.no, I’m fine they say,

Are you sure?

I’m fine.

And they walk away.

You don’t think, oh my gosh. They didn’t like me. You just think I offered them some help. They didn’t want, okay.

It is the same thing with sales.

You need to offer help not sell. The more you offer, the more you’ll know that not everybody will want it, and it’s their loss, but rejection – nah, it’s not about you. So keep offering to help.

Give back. I mean, here I am, giving back right now. I just filled up a whole bottle for plasma. I’m giving back. These things make you feel good.

So my advice to you is this, help, don’t sell. And that way, if they don’t buy from you, then they’re muppets. Right?

They should buy from you. But if they don’t, that’s okay. Somebody else will need you more than they do, and the right clients will come to you. But don’t stop selling because of the rejection.

 Remember Help. Don’t sell.
